The Worst Pre Med Advice I Received…And What To Do Instead
I received lots of advice from lots of different people before applying to med school. Some of it was good, some of it was not. These two pieces of advice are the worst pre med advice I received. They are the things that looking back I wished I had just completely ignored. Don’t Worry about Volunteering in a Clinical Environment This was the first piece of bad advice I received. It was actually from a med student, that was talking to a group of high school students that were interested in going into healthcare. We were told that having more hours of volunteering in something we liked and could talk…

15 Safety Tips for Uni Students
Heading to university is so exciting, especially in a new city. It can also be a little scary to be on your own for the first time. The unfortunate reality of the world is that it’s not always safe. These are my top safety tips for uni students. Most of these apply to anyone but especially young women living on their own. Even if you are attending Uni in your hometown and living at home, a lot of these tips are still important particularly if you are staying on campus late. This post contains links to products, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an…

Best Time Management Apps For Students
If you are anything like me, time management as a student can be a real struggle. In order to stay on top of everything I rely on planners, calendars and different apps to keep myself organized. So I’ve put together my absolute favourite time management apps for students. 1. Notion Notion is an all in one app. I’ve started using Notion both for school and for organizing stuff for my blog. In Notion you have the ability to create calendars, to-do lists, tables and charts. I know lots of students also use it for taking their notes. I use it to organize the learning outcomes we get for our cases…

I Finished My First Semester of Med School During a Pandemic
I have finally made it through my first semester of medical school! Starting medical school in the middle of a pandemic has definitely been an experience. Even though I spent most of the past four months in some form of lockdown a lot has happened. Anyways here’s a little bit about what it’s been like to start med school, in another country, during a global pandemic. In September I flew to England with my two suitcases and a backpack. I posted about that trip before, so if you want to read about it you can find it here. This has been my first experience living away from home and its…

Sunrise in Newcastle
I’m still not quite sure what possessed my flatmates to come up with this idea but they decided one day that we should get up and walk to the park to watch the sunrise one morning. I’m even less sure, as someone who is definitely not a morning person, what possessed me to agree to this plan. When we actually got up the morning we decided to do this it was quite windy out and one of my flatmates messaged and suggested we maybe do it another day but I was already up and awake at that point so that was a big no. We did end up leaving the…

Exploring the Toon … and Only getting a little lost
So after over two weeks in isolation I wanted to get out and explore the city a bit. I had been out once or twice to get some things from the shops but hadn’t just wandered around. First, my flatmate and I went to the main campus so we could pick up our student ID cards. Since I live close to the medical school I hadn’t actually had a chance to even see the main campus since I arrived. The old buildings are gorgeous and everything looked so pretty with the leaves changing colour. After we got our ID cards my flatmate headed back but I decided to stay in…

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles … and COVID-19
So I am officially living in the UK! As of today I have been in the UK for over three weeks . It was quite the journey for me to get here, nearly 22 hours of traveling from the time I left my house to when I arrived in my dorm! I didn’t realize how completely exhausted I would actually be when I arrived. My travel started with a three hour car ride to the airport (there were no direct flights from home and I was definitely not adding a 10 hr layover to my trip). The car ride was pretty relaxed, both my parents drove me down, so it…

I’m Moving to ENGLAND!!
Ok so right now it is t minus 30 days until I move and I figured I should actually post an update on whats happening in my life. So I think in my last post I talked about getting invited to interviews so why don’t we pick up there. I ended up interviewing with three medical schools and let me tell you that was a process. The first school I interviewed with was Newcastle University. They were very accommadating with setting up a remote interview. Though I do admit at the time I was sceptical about doing my interview online and felt that I wouldn’t perform as well as I…

I Got an Interview!!
Alright so an update on my medical school journey …. like three months later. First off school was insanely busy the past two month so I didn’t get around to posting an update while this was actually happening but I thought I would post about it now that I’m almost done with midterms. So as the title says I got an invite to interview for medical school, actually as of now I have three interviews to some of the medical school I applied to in the UK! I am honestly amazed and so grateful, there was a point where I thought that I wasn’t going to get any invites and…

So What are These Big Dreams?
Medical School and What The Hell I Plan to Do With My Life. I have been going back and forth with myself whether or not I wanted to write about my journey applying to medical school. I have decided I will (obviously). What has been holding me back is the feeling that if I don’t get in, which is a possibility, then having talked about it online means that its out there for everyone to see. But I have decided to say screw it, as writing about the process seems to keep me on track and hopefully someone else can learn a little bit more about what the process is…
