Tips for Becoming a Morning Person – From a Night Owl

    September 30, 2022 /

I am the first to admit that I have never been a morning person. I love my sleep, and can easily spend all morning in bed. During my undergraduate degree I would design my schedule so that I didn’t start before 10am (when I did have to take a 9am class I was late like 50% of the time 😬). But with starting medical school and having more 9am classes (that I couldn’t be late for), as well as having to sometimes start at 7:30 moving forward, I knew I had to adjust my sleeping habits. I have now managed to become much more of a morning person than I…

The amount of material you need to know for exams can often be overwhelming. Trying to figure out what to study, and when, especially when you have multiple exams to write is stressful. Having a study schedule can keep you organized and help you feel more prepared. However, even making a study schedule can sometimes be overwhelming in itself. These are my steps to making an exam study schedule. This post is all about how to make your own exam study schedule. I usually start with a schedule like this about a month out from exams. 1. Top Tips for Studying Anatomy

    March 13, 2022 /

Studying anatomy can sometimes be overwhelming. There’s endless amounts to learn and it can often feel like a different language. These tips for studying anatomy will help you to be successful in your classes. These are my top tips for studying anatomy. 1) Have a good foundation My first tip for learning anatomy is to have a solid foundation. Before you start learning any specifics, start with the very basics. Anatomy follows certain rules, and naming conventions that you can fall back on when you are struggling to remember something. Most anatomy textbooks will have a section at the beginning that will go through anatomical position, planes and directional terms.…

The Worst Pre Med Advice I Received…And What To Do Instead

    February 27, 2022 /

I received lots of advice from lots of different people before applying to med school. Some of it was good, some of it was not. These two pieces of advice are the worst pre med advice I received. They are the things that looking back I wished I had just completely ignored. Don’t Worry about Volunteering in a Clinical Environment This was the first piece of bad advice I received. It was actually from a med student, that was talking to a group of high school students that were interested in going into healthcare. We were told that having more hours of volunteering in something we liked and could talk…

    Time Blocking for Students

    January 18, 2022 /

Time blocking is the perfect scheduling method for students. It will help keep you organized and on top of everything you need to do. This post is all about how to start time blocking as a student. What is Time Blocking? Time blocking is a scheduling method where you set out specific blocks of time to get specific tasks done. Most guides on time blocking have you is blocking out every single part of your day – which sounds intense, right? I don’t actually do this, so this is an adapted method of time blocking that works for me and I think will work well for other students. My thoughts…

Best Time Management Apps For Students

    January 12, 2022 /

If you are anything like me, time management as a student can be a real struggle. In order to stay on top of everything I rely on planners, calendars and different apps to keep myself organized. So I’ve put together my absolute favourite time management apps for students. 1. Notion Notion is an all in one app. I’ve started using Notion both for school and for organizing stuff for my blog. In Notion you have the ability to create calendars, to-do lists, tables and charts. I know lots of students also use it for taking their notes. I use it to organize the learning outcomes we get for our cases…

GoodNotes vs Notability – which is better for university?

    November 14, 2021 /

This post is a comparison of GoodNotes vs Notability, and which is the better note taking app for university students. There are lots of options out there for note taking apps for the iPad but GoodNotes and Notability are often considered the best. Both are great for handwriting notes, annotating documents, and more. However, each have their own pros and cons. This post contains links to products, as an Amazon Associate, I may earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Writing Options Both Notability and GoodNotes have a pen and highlighter option. In both apps the pen size is easily adjustable. In Notability you select the size…
